"Need "how to" advice"
Posted by mimi_who on 25-Feb-11 at 11:58 AM
I am bidding on a large mural project and need advice on pricing, "how to's" and installation.
This will be in the form of a border from the ceiling down 7'x 90' with the heighth of the room 25'. I would prefer to paint on canvas and install or hire out installation.
I am thinking of 35.00 sq ft with additional cost of scaffolding and installation if I hire that out. It will be detailed fine art plus graphics. Is this a reasonable amount?
I need to know if this should be done in sections or in a continuous roll although I would assume that sections would be easier for hanging at that height off the floor.
In the pasted I have used medium wieght gessoed canvas(fredix). To date I haven't done anything on this large a scale on canvas to be installed so I would also appreciate suggestions in regard to the best canvas or material to use for this specific purpose. I will be using acrylic artist paints and need to know if pre-gessoed canvas is appropriate and if any additional coatings on either side are needed before painting on the surface.
In regard to doing this in sections or panels, I need advice as to whether or not it would be helpful to stretch the material on frames to paint and remove from the stretchers for installation.
Any and all advice would be sincerely appreciate.
Thank You,
Cheri
