Gary Hume's work 'Vicious' is part of a series of paintings derived from the silhouettes of athletic statues around Mussolini's Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy. The colours in this particular painting are based on the packaging from Wine Gum sweets because Hume felt that these colours signified nothing but personal preference - a comment on aesthetic taste in art.You can find some quotes from Hume about his work in this page of clippings from my interview with him:
