Poverty and Homelessness: A Global Web-based Art
and Digital Photography Competition

What does homelessness mean to you? How has poverty affected individuals in your community or family? Have you witnessed poverty and/or homelessness in recent travels?

You are invited to submit artwork and digital photography that seek to capture the issue of homelessness and poverty in this exciting global competition. Sponsored by Innovative Learning Services at the Calgary Board of Education in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, this competition is designed to support an exciting online global project entitled “The Many Faces of Poverty and Homelessness.” The project URL is http:/www.thehomeless.ca
Please note that you do not have to be currently involved in the “Many Faces of the Homeless” project to take part in this call for artists.

Students and adults of all ages are invited to submit entries into the competition. Winning images and artwork will be juried by a community of well-known Calgary Artists. All winning entries as well as a selection of other works that are deemed to be “honorably mentioned” will also be featured in an exciting global exhibit in a professional Gallery in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in June 2006 as well as on the “Many Faces of Poverty and Homelessness” project website.


Winning entries will win a Canon Digital Camera!
One entrant from each of the following three age categories will be selected as recipients:
• Kindergarten (primary) to grade six students (age 12)
• Grade seven to grade 12 students (age 17)
• Adult (Age 18+)

The competition runs from March 2006 through May 19, 2006. All winning entries will be selected by May 20, 2006

Rules and Regulations of this contest:

• By submitting artwork or photos, you agreeing to allow the Calgary Board of Education use the images on the site and in promotional activities
• All submitted artwork and/or photography may be posted on the “Many Faces of Poverty and Homelessness” project website.
• High resolution for photos is highly recommended
• Entries must be original and entirely the work of the entrant Entries must not be copies, derivatives or based in any way on other copyrighted or published paintings or photographs.
• The following work may be submitted: acrylics, water media, digitally-generated graphics, mixed media, oils, photography, pastels, digital photography
• Artwork sent by FedEx or UPS must be prepaid by entrant.
• The Artist’s name, grade, (if applicable) City and Country must be submitted with all entries. Children under the age of 18 will not have their last name posted unless indicated otherwise.
• Each artist may submit up to three entries
• All entries will be juried by May 20, 2006. Winning entrants will be contacted by email at this time.
