"venetian plastering"

i'm new to this plaster world and wondering about starting up and learning as much as i can as a sideline business. wondering if a 2-day workshop (rivesto-marmorino) is worth the money, how long it would take and how many friends' rooms would i have to ruin before i actually knew what i was doing and could begin to offer my services for a fee? how many of you are laughing already? anyway, any advice is welcome!

Maria

You might try taking a course from Atova international www.paintandplasters.com they teach a real hands on class and will show you alot of great tricks for both venetian plaster and faux. Plus they really care about people and are not in it for the money as much as other schools.

Thanks for all the good links for classes, and to Maria; I hope you find a good class too..BTW I took a class from Texton and would not recomend it to anyone-never got a certificate in the mail-the owner was the teacher and was in a huff!! he was impollite me and the other students were his friends(grungy people with tattoos) and all they wanted was my credit card#. I even had to get my husband to cut the sample boards for me because they would't help as promissed and there was no free trowel like it says on there website-I had to buy one! so be careful which classes you take I'll never do texton again.

There are some great plasters out there. I believe Doyle Self from School of Italian Plasters is considered the king of plastering. He is a moderator on the www.houseoffaux.com forum if you want to check him out.

Hi there - I am new to the forum, but thought this site may be of interest to you: http://www.vasariplaster.com

Disclaimer: I do know the owner. He is a friend of mine I met through a Venetian Plaster project. His site does have a lot of tips for those just starting out.

Terry
