THE FRESCO SCHOOL now brings the European High Renaissance art form of true (“Buon”) fresco, i.e., painting pictures in wet plaster a la Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel, to Los Angeles with the opening of the full-time school at the new Park Plaza Hotel 5th Floor studio. Professional and personal artists may study in 3-5 day workshops designed for out-of-town artists, or local artists may master fresco in classes spread over a longer timeframe. Workstations may also be rented for preparation and execution of personal or professional projects. (See attached class list.)
You are invited to come and view live demonstration by iLia Anossov and students of buon fresco painting technique, see and touch true frescos painted by our instructors and students as well as participate in Art Debate. Experience the luminous beauty that the “Mother of All Arts” provides all who are fortunate enough to see true fresco in person. Italian calcium plaster techniques harken back to the earliest limestone caves painted with earth pigment. That cave paintings survive today is testimony to the longevity of this most longed-for artistic experience. Carbonization and union of the pigment as the plaster hardens over time is responsible for the permanence of the images painted while the plaster is still wet. Master artist iLia Anossov and Master plasterer Ian Hardwick have spent over nine years perfecting the plaster and painting techniques.
