"exterior mural in northen climate"

I was wondering if anyone knows if an exterior true fresco has been created to withstand four seasons of very high variable temperatures seen in Northen climates? Marji

the technique is just the same, sometimes for exterior frescos people add upto 10% of white cement for immediate strength, but that shrinks painting time considerably. Adding some brick dust does the same but better on the painting time.

In reality if building is not meant to last more the 200 it is not essential - because big "wear and tear" signs should become evident only after a long time (if the plaster is done properly). There are very well preserved exterior frescoes in Bavarian Alps that are over 400 years old.

   Thanks for your response.
I understand there are exterior frescoes all over the world. In particular, i am wanting to know about true frescoes in severe climates. You had mentioned there is a 400yr. old one in the Bavarian Alps, so I was wondering if you had specific information about about that particular fresco.

Also, you said that using white masonry cement in the buon fresco mixture would hardy up the recipe. Have you or somenone you know used this for a climate with severe temperature changes occurring within one year? If so, could you let me know what the temperature variablility was that occured within one, 4 season year? What i'm looking at is a variability within a 60 degree C. range in one place within the year.

Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.
marji

I did not say there was/is one - there are many and you need to research where they are.

Eastern Europe - Russia and Romania in particular (orthodox countries) have plenty of exterior frescoes at that climate. Tibet has frescoes and the temperature changes.

Keep in mind that fresco is the most natural and most used and most permanent medium of all times. Fresco is NOT bound to any particular country or culture.

You pick the country/region and look for frescoes in it.

giving me the information you did has helped my research. Before your help, I was using research words that didn't bring me the useful info I needed. Bavaria has been the easiest to check out.
Thanks very much.
